Gudema Name Theories
When my brother Jon and I visited Holland in 1991, we came across a man who explained to us (hearsay) that our family received the name from Louis Napoleon, at some type of surname ceremony in Groningen, Holland. At the end of the conquering of Holland, the French (or under Friesen) named all the locals with a surname. Now, this was told to us by a local man who was drunk at the time. He had heard this from his local school teachers, and we have yet to confirm this story, but it sounds quite compelling. Not sure, but we would like to get this told correctly if possible.
